The parents of Lucy Letby, a woman convicted of murdering seven infants and attempting to murder seven others, have spoken out against a new Netflix documentary about their daughter's crimes. In a statement to the Sunday Times, Susan and John Letby criticized the use of footage due to be aired in the documentary as a "complete invasion of privacy." They expressed concern that watching the footage would "likely kill us."
The documentary, titled "The Investigation of Lucy Letby," features footage that has "never been released publicly," including video of officers arresting Letby on suspicion of murder and attempted murder while she is sitting in bed, before she is led out of the property in her dressing gown. The Letbys were not informed that their home was being used for filming, and they fear it will turn their home into a "tourist attraction."
The parents claimed that the footage of Letby "being arrested in her bedroom in our house and her saying goodbye to one of her beloved cats" was "even more distressing." They also accused the investigating officer, Detective Superintendent Paul Hughes, of having a "deep hatred" of them, and questioned why he was allowed to show the world what took place in their home without their consent.
Letby, 36, is serving 15 whole-life terms for her crimes. The documentary is set to be released on February 4th. Netflix and Cheshire Constabulary have been contacted for comment.
