Get ready for an exciting journey into the world of Avatar! The Legend of Aang: The Last Airbender is about to take a bold step, bypassing the big screen and heading straight to Paramount+! But here's the twist: this animated masterpiece is just one part of a grand plan.
In a groundbreaking move, Paramount+ is set to become the ultimate hub for all things Avatar. The Legend of Aang, initially planned for a theatrical release, will now exclusively debut on the streaming platform in October 2026, alongside the brand-new series Avatar: Seven Havens. Both projects are under the creative wing of Avatar Studios, a Nickelodeon-backed venture launched in 2021 to expand the beloved universe.
With this move, Paramount+ will unite the entire animated franchise under one roof, offering fans a seamless experience. The Legend of Aang continues to evolve with an impressive voice cast, including Taika Waititi, Geraldine Viswanathan, and Dee Bradley Baker, among others.
The upcoming film, inspired by the original series, is directed by Lauren Montgomery, with Steve Ahn and William Mata as co-directors. The creative minds behind the original, Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, are producers alongside Latifa Ouaou and Maryann Garger. The music, composed by Jeremy Zuckerman, will add an extra layer of magic to both the film and the new series.
The original Avatar: The Last Airbender, which aired on Nickelodeon from 2005 to 2008, left an indelible mark with its unique world-building and storytelling. Set in a world divided by warring nations, it introduced us to 'benders' with elemental powers.
In the upcoming animated feature, Aang, the last Airbender, discovers a long-lost power that could save his culture. Joined by his friends, he embarks on a global quest to secure this power before it falls into the wrong hands.
Seven Havens, on the other hand, explores a post-apocalyptic world where a young Earthbender, the new Avatar, is seen as a threat rather than a saviour. Pursued by enemies, she and her twin must uncover their past and protect the last remnants of civilization.
Produced by Nickelodeon Animation, Seven Havens will consist of 26 episodes, divided into two books. DiMartino and Konietzko, the co-creators and executive producers, are joined by Ethan Spaulding and Sehaj Sethi.
The Legend of Aang and Seven Havens will join Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra on Paramount+, where the original show has consistently topped streaming charts since its 2023 release, building on its earlier success on Netflix.
And this is the part most people miss: the animated Avatar universe is about to get even bigger and better!
